A Very Merry Minion Christmas!

Here at the Poyntz/Portsmouth household we had a truly magical Christmas which was lovely to share with all of our family. We got to have Oscar from Christmas Eve evening all the way through to Boxing day morning.

My mum had bought us all minion pyjamas and this was hilarious and created some of the best family photos!

David spoiled me rotten as only he can and surprised we with an iMac which I am writing this post from after he has passed out from excessive whiskey consumption! We shared Christmas day with my parents and all three grandparents and popped to see the in-laws in the afternoon.
Today was spent shamefully popping into town to view the sales before heading off for the boxing day extravaganza. I locked us out which caused a fuss but our lovely neighbours managed to hop over the fence so that we could get in!
All in all an extremely lovely time filled with gifts of embroidery, material and copious notepads - they all know me so well!

Did you have a nice Christmas?

Melted Snowmen and Hot Chocolate Baubles

This week at brownies we started making a few of our many planned Christmas themed crafts. We made melted snowmen biscuits and hot chocolate baubles which are great as decorations and as gifts.

The snowmen biscuits are made from a digestive biscuit, some normal runny icing, marshmallows and icing pens - not exactly rocket science on how they're made and the girls really enjoyed being able to be creative with what had melted off of the snowman and was floating in it's puddle. Our inspiration came from pinterest, the origin of all of our ideas! Some of them were so cute! Some of them just love icing!

The baubles were also a pinterest generated idea with the baubles being placed in a plastic cup filled with sawdust to protect them. We then made funnels out of paper and added drinking chocolate, little marshmallows and other decorative things like edible snowflakes and gold balls. The idea was to put them things in in layers so that the baubles looked pretty too - the girls didn't quite grasp this bit. I may have to have a go myself as they look so lovely (well, nearly)

What christmas craft have you started?

A Weekend Away.

This weekend, David and I travelled up to Liverpool to visit some friends. Neither of us have ever been to Liverpool and it was just so much fun! We met up with Donna and Kevin and were shown the touristy parts - we walked along the docks, we saw the Royal Liver Buildings, we saw where the Beatles and Cilla Black had originated. We saw the beautiful library and then did some shopping and went for some drinks.

We popped back to our hotel to check in before meeting back up with Kevin and Donna and another couple we had also met on holiday; Chelsea and Daniel. We went out for a huge chinese and then went to The Cavern, a bar full of live music which was fantastic!

We had the best time!

Is It Too Early To Be Talking About Christmas?

Daisy and I have been married since the 6th February this year and have been living in our flat since January 1st so this will be the first time we have had Christmas in our flat and the first time as a married couple - how soppy and exciting! In preparation for the sheer expense of Christmas (what with David being one of four, having seven nieces and nephews and a son) I decided, to his disgust, that I would start making Christmas decorations in August to try and balance out the cost.

I decided to make some felt tree decorations, taking inspiration from all of the beautiful designs on pinterest. I made the gingerbread man first, creating a pattern piece myself to start with. Since then, it has blossomed nicely with the most effective being the star I think. What do you think? Any suggestions for more designs?

Oscar's Minion - How to.

So, as I had mentioned in my previous post - I created a felt minion for Oscar to go alongside his birthday presents. I made the minion using a free pattern online from Lady Joyceley's Tumblr Page which is simply perfect which I came across on Pinterest! I was a bit apprehensive about creating something using a pattern for the first time but it was easy to use and follow and I really enjoyed the challenge!

This is the final minion which both Oscar and I were really pleased with.

The body pieces sew together to form a bullet shape - I did this part on the sewing machine and the remainder by hand. I used blanket stitch to attach everything to the body except where stitching was intended to be seen as per the pattern!

I decided to make felt eyes rather than use googly eyes so the whole minion was felt with some small black buttons on the front of his dungarees.

Such an enjoyable project and I can't wait to start my next. I would  love to know if anyone gives this a go or has also made a minion?

Oscar's Minion

So, yesterday was Oscar's 4th Birthday and a big event in the Portsmouth household. Unfortunately Daisy had to go to work during the day but Oscar's Mummy was holding a huge minion themed party for all of the family and his friends. During the day, my Mum, Dad, Nan and I went along to Osk's birthday party to help him celebrate. It was super cute and in the evening we got to take Osk for ice cream and let him open the presents from us.
I made Oscar a felt minion which is in the pictures below and he was so chuffed with it, I got a very big hug and thank you kiss! I will post about how I made it next.
I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend
